Walk to school – let's embrace an active way of travelling

The 'Let's Walk to School' project starts on Wednesday, 7th September for the fifteenth time and formally concludes with the international 'Let's Walk to School' Day on Wednesday, 5th October. The aim of the project is to encourage children to adopt an active mode of travel to and from school and to increase their ability to travel safely in traffic.

The project runs from 7 September to 5 October.

The Let's Walk to School project ( www.iwalktoschool.org ) starts on Wednesday, 7 September for the fifteenth time and formally concludes with the international Walk to School Day on Wednesday, 5 October. The aim of the project is to encourage children to adopt an active mode of travel to and from school and to increase their ability to travel safely in traffic.

The Healthy Town of Hafnarfjörður encourages all schools in Hafnarfjörður, parents and children to actively participate in the project! It is healthy and good to walk to school!

Participants in over 40 countries

Every year, millions of children in over 40 countries all over the world take part in Walk to School in one way or another. In this country, participation has grown steadily and, in the first year, there were 26 participating schools, while a total of 78 schools registered to take part in 2021. On the project's website – www.gongumiskolann.is – you can find all the detailed information about the project, where you can, among other things, find some fun examples of how a number of schools in Iceland have implemented the project, as well as various other material from the participating schools.
