The 'Let's Walk to School' project is now drawing to a close.www.iwalktoschool.org) will begin for the tenth time in this country. The project will be launched on Wednesday, 7 September and will formally conclude with the international Walk to School Day on Wednesday, 5 October. The project's aim is to encourage children to adopt an active mode of travel to and from school, and to increase their ability to travel safely in traffic.

One of the simplest ways to increase physical activity in daily life is to choose an active mode of transport, such as walking, cycling, running, roller skating or skateboarding. The benefits are not only related to mental and physical well-being, but it is also an environmentally friendly and cost-effective way to get around.

Which class will get the GOLDEN SHOE at Áslandsskóli?

Every year, millions of children in over 40 countries around the world take part in Walk to School in one way or another. At the same time, a new participation record was set here in the country last year, with a total of 76 schools signing up. On the website Let's walk to school is all the further information about the project, where you can find, among other things, some fun examples of how a number of schools in Iceland have implemented the project, as well as various other material from the participating schools. As in previous years, schools that send the project photos and an account of what was done will receive a small gift at the end of the project. Áslandsskóli is among the primary schools in Hafnarfjörður that take an active part in the project.  There, pupils are encouraged to walk to school every day, and all classes take part in a competition for the Golden Shoe. The Golden Shoe is awarded to the class that is the most diligent about walking from 7 September to 5 October.  All participating classes will receive a certificate of recognition, and the school's youngest pupils will also be working on projects related to the initiative.
