Thousands expected at the Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður – See who will be there!
The Christmas Village in the heart of Hafnarfjörður opens today at 5 p.m. 200,000 Christmas lights and nearly 50 shops will be in the area for the six weekends the Christmas Village is open. Our Cuxhaven twin town Christmas tree will be lit at around 6:40 p.m.

200,000 Christmas lights and nearly 50 shops will be in the area for the six weekends that the Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður is open. The Christmas Village is 22 years old. It opens today, 14 November, at 5 p.m.
„It's hard to describe what the Christmas Village has done for Hafnarfjörður; more joy, stronger traditions. Families flock here year after year, to pick up the roast, presents and treats, but above all for each other's company,“ says Valdimar Víðisson, the mayor.
Valdimar Together with Clarissa Duvigneau, Ambassador of Germany, and Wolf Dick, Consul of Iceland in Cuxhaven, they will light the twinning tree at around 18:40. This will be the 37th time the event has taken place. The occasion will be set to beautiful music before and after.
The Hafnarfjörður Brass Band plays Christmas tunes at 6 p.m., the male choir Þrestir sings a quarter of an hour later, and Árni Beinteinn and Sylvía sing the children's best Christmas songs after the tree is lit.
Twenty Christmas houses adorn the Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður, and numerous shops on Strandgata will be open at the same time as the Christmas Village, including Sigga & Timo, Kaki, Burkni, Litla Hönnunar Búðin, Litla Gallerý, Pipar og Salt and Petria. The Heart Ice Rink, an eco-friendly ice rink, has been set up opposite the Bæjarbíó cinema. The town is completely transforming.
„Yes, Hafnarfjörður changes its character. We decorate the town for Christmas and enjoy the whole Advent period,“ says V.old age.
The first weekend will be packed, and it's wonderful to take a break in the glasshouses at Thorsplan, the experience houses:
