The Walk to School project ( www.iwalktoschool.org ) started today, Wednesday 2 September, for the fourteenth time and will formally conclude with the international Walk to School Day on Wednesday 7 October. The aim of the project is to encourage children to adopt an active mode of travel to and from school and to increase their ability to travel safely in traffic.

Participants in over 40 countries
Every year, millions of children in over 40 countries across the world take part in Walk to School in one way or another. In this country, participation has grown steadily and, in the first year, there were 26 participating schools, but a total of 74 schools had registered to take part in 2019. On the project's website – www.gongumiskolann.is – is all the further information about the project, where you can find, among other things, some schools in Iceland's fun implementations of the project, as well as various other material from the participating schools.
The Healthy Town of Hafnarfjörður encourages all schools in Hafnarfjörður, parents and children to actively participate in the project next month! It's healthy and good to walk to school!
