We've always done it this way!
Recently, Sigurjón Ólafsson, Director of the Service and Development Division, gave a lecture at the Digital Capability Cluster on the importance of the human element in digital transformations.
The aim of the Digital Competence Cluster is to raise awareness among Icelandic companies of the importance of considering digital transformation.
In his presentation, Sigurjón outlined a digital journey dating back to 2019, focusing on how the City of Hafnarfjörður has tried to involve its staff in this journey, and to increase understanding and knowledge of what digital transformation entails. Instead of the refrain „we've always done it this way“, staff are increasingly saying, „we don't want to work like this anymore“. This is the clearest indication that the project is succeeding.
The lecture covers, among other things:
- The town's decision to embark on a digital transformation
- Prioritisation of projects following an administrative review
- The team working on the project
- Seven signposts for a digital journey
- The importance of showing an interest in staff's projects
- Be careful not to use phrases that the general public does not understand.
- Don't over-analyse or overthink the tasks, the importance of just getting on with it.
- Understand and meet the needs of residents / the public / staff.
- The importance of process work
- Implementation of technology / software
