There's plenty on offer at the 2026 Winter Festival. Have a look at the programme and get some inspiration for your plans. That way, you're guaranteed a brilliant weekend.

Winter Festival in Hafnarfjörður

How is the best way to enjoy the Winter Festival in Hafnarfjörður? There's a lot on offer: evening swimming, music bingo, other great music, lectures and workshops. Here are a couple of suggestions to make things easier for those of you who have no idea what to choose from these treats!

Plan A

Friday evening on Museum Night

  • 7 p.m. at Hafnarborg. Tónflóð – sound healing with Vala Gestsdóttir

Then run over to the folk museum…

  • 8:00 pm at the Folk Museum. Folklorist Bryndís Björgvinsdóttir will give the lecture: Elf settlements and sacred sites in Hafnarfjörður: The connection between superstition and worldview. 

Then go straight to the Siversenhúsið.

  • Friday 6pm - 10pm. A display of national costume and jewellery showcases the bathhouse works.

Saturday night at the swimming pool

  • 5 p.m. – Arrive at Ásvallalaug. Free and water balls in the big pool.

From swimming to swimming! And enjoy the swimming pool night to the fullest.

  • 7 p.m. at the South Bay Pool. Music Bingo – bingo and music under one roof!

Sunday afternoon

  • Between 6 pm and 10 pm in the Heart of Hafnarfjörður. Hafnarfjörður Church, Hásalir and the Hafnarfjörður Music School are lit up with beautiful colours. A great opportunity for a drive.

Plan B

Friday evening on Museum Night

  • 6 p.m. at the Packhouse. A telescope workshop, where you can make your own telescope.
  • At 18:30 in the Packhouse. Take the opportunity to listen to the Scouts play well-chosen songs.
  • At 7:30 p.m. at the Library. Enjoy more music than the band LEA plays there.
  • 8 p.m. at Fjarðarkaup. Catch the 15-minute photography exhibition by Fókus, the amateur photographers' association, on the LED screen at Fjarðarkaup. The exhibition is shown on the hour.

Saturday night at the swimming pool

  • Swim at the South Bay Pool between 6 pm and 10 pm.

Sunday afternoon

6 pm - 10 pm in the heart of Hafnarfjörður

  • Now, just like in plan A – it's worth going for a drive and enjoying seeing the Hafnarfjörður Church, the Hall of Háskólinn and the Music School lit up in a riot of colour in the depths of winter.

View the full programme here in Hafnarfjörður on Winter Festival 2026. The Winter Festival is held from 5–8 February. The Winter Festival takes place in all six municipalities of the capital region. A number of artists take part in 150 events and create a unique atmosphere in the capital region.

All events are free.
