Winter holidays in Hafnarfjörður – ideas for good entertainment
There will be a half-term holiday in primary schools and the Hafnarfjörður Music School on Thursday, 23rd February and Friday, 24th February. To mark the occasion, there is, among other things, free swimming for children and adults on these two days, and the town's museums are offering an entertaining programme.
Swimming, a treasure hunt, dancing, art workshops and more fun!
There will be a half-term holiday in the primary schools and the Hafnarfjörður Music School on Thursday, 23 February and Friday, 24 February. To mark the occasion, there is, for example, free swimming for children and adults on these two days at Ásvallalaug, Suðurbæjarlaug and Sundhöll Hafnarfjarðar. The Healthy City of Hafnarfjörður invites children and their families to take part in a fun programme during the winter break, and the city's website offers great ideas for fun and varied activities for the whole family throughout Hafnarfjörður.
The Library, the Folk Museum and Hafnarborg warmly welcome families during the winter holidays.
Primary school children are invited Welcome to Hafnarfjörður Library during the winter holidays, where, among other things, video games will be played with virtual reality goggles. Hafnarfjörður Museum of Local History will have a special opening during the winter holidays and there will be a family-friendly scavenger hunt leading visitors around the museum, and a children's tour will be offered on Friday. Then offers Port city for primary school children to come and take part in fun and creative art workshops. The workshops will each have their own format, so you are welcome to take part on one or both days.
Thursday, 23 February
- FREE SWIMMING from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Ásvallalaug and Suðurbæjarlaug, and at the Swimming Hall until 9 p.m.
- A treasure hunt for the children and interesting exhibitions at the Hafnarfjörður Museum of Local History. Open from 11 am to 3 pm.
- Sculpture workshop at Hafnarborg from 13:00 to 15:00. Participants will work with plaster to create sculptures in the style of the artist Sóley Eiríksdóttir, whose work is currently on display in the museum. Sóley herself created her larger sculptures by covering a framework with concrete, but that is where the plaster comes in this time. The workshop will be led by Unnur Mjöll S. Leifsdóttir, an artist and specialist at the Hafnarborg office.
- VR gaming at Hafnarfjörður Library at 3 p.m.
- Hafnarfjörður Skateboard Club is holding an open house from 10 am to 2 pm at Flatahrauni 14. Free entry and you can borrow equipment for free. Open to everyone (skateboards, scooters and BMX).
- Open classes at the Hafnarfjörður School of Choreography. Dance fun at 10:00, 11:00 and 12:15, and Silk at 12:10, 13:15 and 14:15. Maximum number of participants per class and Registration required
Friday 24 February
- FREE SWIMMING from 6:30 am to 8 pm at Ásvallalaug and Suðurbæjarlaug, and at the Swimming Hall until 9 pm.
- A treasure hunt for children and a children's tour of the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum at 13:00. Open 11:00-15:00.
- Planet-making workshop at Hafnarborg, 13:00–15:00. In the workshop, participants will work with various colourful materials to create their own planets that change as they are turned and in the light. Together, the planets will then form a solar system that illuminates the „celestial sphere“. Tutor: Þórdís Erla Zoëga, visual artist
