Worlds and universes at the library

Heimar og himingeimar, a costume and play convention to be held at Hafnarfjörður Library from 29th to 31st August, received a 700,000 króna grant from the Children's Cultural Fund in the most recent distribution. „This makes all the difference. We can build more, do more and put on an even stronger event,“ says Unnur Helga Möller, Events Manager at Hafnarfjörður Library. The festival will now be held for the second time at the library, but it far exceeded expectations last year, with over four thousand visitors attending. This year's festival will be even more spectacular.

Among 47 projects that received a grant

The allocation from the Children's Cultural Fund for 2025 took place on Children's Day, 25 May. The fund is providing grants for a total of 47 diverse projects this year, amounting to just over 100 million króna. The fund received 138 applications for almost 450 million króna, according to the Stjórnarráðið website. It states that more applications have never been received. A three-person expert panel considered the applications submitted to the fund, and the Minister for Culture then approved the fund's board's recommendation for the allocation.

Logi Einarsson, Minister of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education, and Guðný Hilmarsdóttir, Chair of the Board of the Children's Cultural Fund, addressed the representatives of the projects awarded grants at the grant-awarding ceremony, which was held at the Head Office.

Three children's cultural festivals in the regions are this time receiving the highest grants, 5.5 million krónur each. The children's cultural festival Þræðir in East Iceland, Púkinn, the sea and the solar eclipse in Westfjords, and the 2025 Westland Children's Cultural Festival. Pera Óperukollektif receives 5 million króna for its children's programme with active participation from children at Opera Days.
