The Healthy Town of Hafnarfjörður and the GETA organisation have joined forces and are inviting families in Hafnarfjörður to take part in a collaborative vegetable-growing project, where people from diverse backgrounds come together to strengthen community ties, foster friendship and encourage healthier lifestyles.
Harvest – growing vegetables and relationships
Would you like to learn how to grow vegetables in a diverse group of people in a friendly environment? Would you like to do something different and exciting this summer? Then this project is for you. Harvest for you and even the whole family.
In Uppskeru, families in Hafnarfjörður are invited to take part in a community vegetable garden at the allotments by Víðistaðatún. The aim of the project is to promote sustainability, inclusion, well-being and connection by creating a safe and accessible space where people meet regularly and grow vegetables together.
Families will be allocated plots in the vegetable gardens at Víðistaðatún where they will help each other with the cultivation under the guidance of a horticulturist and with support from GETU staff and volunteers. Weekly meetings will be held in the gardens where participants can receive advice, chat and enjoy spending time together. At the end of the project, a harvest festival will be held.
The project is for all interested families living in Hafnarfjörður, regardless of their background. Together, participants will cultivate vegetables, friendship and a healthy lifestyle.
The project is funded by the City of Hafnarfjörður and the Employment Service, but it is also part of an international project. Resilient cities, healthy people which is supported by the European Union.
