The town centre of Hafnarfjörður has been bustling with life and festive cheer during Advent. The Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður is now entering its final Advent weekend of the year, and will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 12 pm to 5 pm. The Christmas Village has seen record attendance this year, from both visitors and stallholders. The weather has been kind to the locals, and the people of Hafnarfjörður have taken the opportunity to welcome interested visitors to their town during Advent.

The Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður is open for the fourteenth time this year. This popular winter festival has evolved from a cosy Christmas celebration for the people of Hafnarfjörður into a cosy Christmas celebration for the whole nation and, increasingly, for foreign tourists. The festival has grown year on year, and this year the number of Christmas houses on Thorsplan and Strandgatan in Hafnarfjörður is greater than ever. The Christmas Village is a cultural and experiential destination for the whole family during the run-up to Christmas. A journey that includes a walk through Thorsplan among beautifully decorated Christmas houses, where cheerful, singing vendors offer a variety of gifts, designer items and Icelandic handicrafts. Horse riding tours around the centre of Hafnarfjörður have been a great delight, and the free photoshoot, offered by the Desænur Estate at the Firði Shopping Centre, has been a hit with families and groups of friends, who have also taken the opportunity to pop into the Íshús Hafnarfjarðar pop-up market. an art exhibition at Hafnarborg and in the many shops to be found in the centre of Hafnarfjörður.. „We have managed to maintain this homely feel despite the festival's increased scope and expansion. The Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður is, one might say, a collection of festivities, although the village itself is run by the municipality of Hafnarfjörður. The Christmas Village has become what it is today thanks to the collaboration of local businesses and individuals, and to the growing number of domestic and international visitors who come to the village during Advent.“ says Árdís Ármannsdóttir, Communications Manager for the City of Hafnarfjörður.„We are extremely proud of this Christmas celebration of ours, which so clearly showcases the community spirit in Hafnarfjörður and the atmosphere we want to be known for: a relaxed, light-hearted, humorous, healthy and happy atmosphere for the whole family.“ Adds Árdís.

Thorsplan will be full of life and bustle on the final weekend of Advent, and the little Christmas houses will have become a nationally renowned marketplace for art, craft and design. There should be something for everyone this weekend: meet cheerful Father Christmases on their walk along Strandgatan, chat with Grýla, listen to beautiful Christmas tunes and dance around the Christmas tree at the Christmas ball at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
