Second allocation of cultural grants this year

Four projects were awarded a total of 1,650,000 krónur in the second round of cultural grants from the City of Hafnarfjörður this year. The presentation took place in Friðrikssal at the Library just a short while ago. A three-year partnership agreement has also been made with Björn Thoroddsen for Bjössi Thor's Guitar Party.

The City of Hafnarfjörður's cultural grants support a diverse cultural life and projects that enrich the city's artistic life. This time, four projects are awarded a grant, ranging from New Year's Eve concerts to FLUMBRU's event programme.

„Our cultural life is strong and diverse. This is primarily due to the people who dedicate their time, work and ideas to it,“ said Guðbjörg Oddný Jónasdóttir, chair of the Culture and Tourism Committee, at today's distribution. It was particularly pleasing to award grants for the first time from the Hafnarfjörður Choir Fund. Three choirs received grants: Gaflarakórinn – the Choir of the Association of Senior Citizens, Karlakórinn Þrestir, and the Barbörukórinn.

„Our choirs make a strong impression on the local community. They perform at concerts, festivals and all sorts of events, keeping alive a long-standing singing tradition. Behind every concert are regular rehearsals, a great deal of work, and people who turn up week after week.“

She thanked them all for their contribution to the cultural life of Hafnarfjörður.

„Thank you for your initiative, your work, and for making the cultural life in Hafnarfjörður better and more diverse.“
