Ingibjörg Magnúsdóttir, a department head at Hraunvallaskóli in Hafnarfjörður, has been appointed headteacher of a new primary school in Skarðshlíð, off Völlunum in Hafnarfjörður. The new primary school in Skarðshlíð will open this autumn, initially in temporary premises at the Ástjarnar parish hall, and from autumn 2018 in a new school building in Skarðshlíð.

Ingibjörg is a qualified primary school teacher, has a master's degree in education and is completing a diploma in public administration. She taught in primary schools in the capital region from 1997-2008, when she took up the position of Head of Department at Hraunvallaskóli, a role she holds to this day. She has thus been involved in the development of Hraunvallaskóli and will now be taking part in a similar project as the headteacher of a new school. Ingibjörg will start work on 1 April to prepare for the school year ahead.

A new school building in Skarðshlíð is in the planning stages. A tender for the design and construction of the school is forthcoming; it is planned to be built in 2-3 phases, with the first phase, the primary school section, ready in autumn 2018 as previously mentioned. The school building will also accommodate a nursery school and a dedicated facility for music education, in accordance with the general curriculum for music schools, which will be a branch of the Hafnarfjörður Music School. The school will also feature sports facilities and space for pupils' extracurricular activities.

Ingibjörg is welcomed to a role in an exciting project, managing a new primary school in Skarðshlíð.
