Leisure grants for participation fees in sports and leisure activities for children aged six to eighteen increased on 1 January 2018, from 3,000 kr. per month to 4,000 kr., or by about 33%, and the grant can be used 12 months a year.
From the New Year, students in music education, such as those at the Hafnarfjörður Music School, can also use the leisure allowance. Children can therefore now take part in various leisure activities in or outside Hafnarfjörður, including sports, cultural or creative courses, and other pastimes. This is important for empowering children in their chosen field and encouraging them to take part in leisure activities.
The aim of the subsidies is to enable children with permanent residence in Hafnarfjörður to take part in sports and leisure activities, regardless of their families' financial circumstances, and to support sports and other preventative activities.
The year a child turns 6, they start receiving the grant on 1 January and stop receiving it on 31 December of the year they turn 17, i.e. children born in 2001-2012 in 2018. This grant can only be received once per month.
The allocation of the leisure grant takes place on My pages on hafnarfjordur.is or the relevant organisation's website.
