Historical walking tour of the old town in Icelandic and Polish

News

Nearly a thousand people have taken part in this summer's cultural and health walks. Now it's time for the final walk, a historical tour of the old town, which will be a little different. The same walk will be held on two consecutive evenings, with the first guided in Polish and the second in Icelandic.

Nearly a thousand people have attended the fourteen cultural and health walks that the Healthy Town of Hafnarfjörður, in collaboration with Hafnarborg, the Hafnarfjörður Museum of Local History, and the Hafnarfjörður Library, has organised this summer. Now it is time for the final walk, which will have a slightly different format. The same walk will take place on two consecutive evenings, with a guide on the first evening in Polish and on the second in Icelandic.

On Thursday evening, the final cultural and health walk of the summer takes place, with walks having been held every Thursday throughout the summer. Nearly a thousand people have taken an active part in the walks for their health, and have heard interesting facts about their town along the way. On the final walk of the summer, Björn Pétursson, the town's heritage officer, will lead a historical walk through the old town, starting from the Packhouse at 6 Vesturgata at 8 p.m. The evening before, on Wednesday evening, 28th August, Björn and Aleksandra Julia Węgrzyniak will walk the same route, but that walk will be conducted in Polish.

The Cultural and Health Walks are a collaborative project between Hafnarborg, the Hafnarfjörður Museum of Local History, the Hafnarfjörður Library and the Healthy City of Hafnarfjörður. In September, interesting public health walks will be offered in collaboration with the Icelandic Tourist Board at a new time, every Wednesday at 6 p.m. These walks will be advertised separately.
