The school is unique in that both a nursery and a primary school are run within its walls. It could be said that pupils begin their school journey at eighteen months old at Hraunvallaskolinn and complete it at the age of sixteen. Hraunvallar School operates according to the philosophy of the open school, and the building has been designed with this in mind. Teaching is geared towards meeting the diverse needs of individuals, who learn to organise their own learning and assess their own progress. Teachers work together in teams during lessons and in the planning and preparation of teaching. Pupils in the same year group are in common tutorial groups with a shared form tutor in their home areas. The values of Hraunvallar School are Friendship – Cooperation – Responsibility.

The employment period is from 15 August to 31 May.  The job share is approximately 571/3%.

The working pattern is based on a rota, with working hours from 16:00 to 22:30 on two weekdays and every other Friday, and from 10:00 to 16:00 on alternate Saturdays.  

Key responsibilities and duties:  

  • Responsible for the changing rooms at Hraunvallar School's sports hall.
  • Responsible for cleaning the sports hall
  • Receives and assists those who hire time in the Hraunvallaskóli sports hall from 16:00.  
  • Carries out patrol and monitoring duties for the premises and equipment, and keeps corridors and toilets tidy.
  • Other tasks that a manager assigns to an employee
     

Educational and competency requirements:

  • Experience of working with children is desirable.
  • A great interest and ambition to work with children
  • Agility in communication, flexibility and cooperativeness
  • Initiative and autonomy in work methods
  • Positivity and an interest in working in a creative and ambitious environment
  • Punctuality and conscientiousness
  • Good command of Icelandic. The proficiency benchmark C1 is taken as a reference. criteria of the European Language Portfolio.
  • General computer skills

A clean criminal record is required upon employment.

The salary is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Federation of Icelandic Municipalities and the Hafnarfjörður Staff Association.
