The School of Medicine is looking for a driven and dynamic academic and career advisor. on supply, for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Lækjarskóli has a history dating back to 1877 and is situated in a beautiful, green environment by the stream in Hafnarfjörður. A new school building, bright and spacious, was constructed and opened in 2002. The school has, among other facilities, a swimming pool and a sports hall. There are approximately 450 pupils. All pupils from the 5th to the 10th grade are provided with their own tablet to use.
The motto of the School of Nursing is responsibility, respect and safety, and all school activities are reflected in these words. The school operates according to SMT School Skills, which means that the emphasis is on approaching pupils in a positive way, paying more attention to good behaviour and creating a positive school atmosphere.
The implementation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) was initiated some time ago. UDL is a methodology based on the research of David Rose (Boston Harvard, 1984). UDL provides students with the opportunity to learn in different ways and to demonstrate their skills in different ways. Students are active and have an influence on their own learning, and the aim is to eliminate the barriers that stand in the way of student success.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Safeguarding the education and welfare of students
- Taking part in the school's prevention projects
- Is on the school's anti-bullying team
- Being a student representative and advocate
- Providing advice to students, parents and staff regarding learning, study skills, study habits, well-being, anxiety and relationship difficulties.
- Other tasks as per the job description
Educational and competency requirements:
- Qualifications as a careers and employment adviser
- Ability to work independently
- Agility in communication, flexibility and cooperativeness
- Initiative and autonomy in work methods
- Positivity and an interest in working in a creative and ambitious environment
- Punctuality and conscientiousness
- Good command of Icelandic. The proficiency level C1 is taken as the standard, according to criteria of the European Language Portfolio.
A clean criminal record is required upon employment.
