The School of Medicine is looking to hire a leisure activities leader for the youth centre, Vitann.
The Council is in office from 24 August 2026.

The youth club, Vitinn, offers children and teenagers in Years 5 to 10 a venue for a varied and enjoyable leisure activity programme in the school's premises after the regular school day has finished. The work is based on youth democracy and a preventative approach. Vitinn is a venue for open social activities, a structured programme, group work and various events organised by the staff together with the young people.

The job is for approx. 25 hours and is well-suited for students or for those looking for a part-time job, the working hours are outside of normal working hours.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Participates in organising and shaping a varied programme.
  • Extensive communication and collaboration with children and teenagers.
  • Create a positive atmosphere based on respect and democratic working practices.
  • Support for the initiative of children and adolescents ensures their safety and well-being.
  • Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.

Educational and competency requirements:

  • On-the-job training, courses and/or some work experience is sufficient to acquire the required knowledge.
  • Experience of working with children and young people
  • Icelandic proficiency at A2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
  • Punctuality and organisational skills, initiative and the ability to work independently
  • A wide range of interests that are utilised in the work of community centres.
  • General computer skills

A condition of employment is that the applicant has a clean criminal record.

The salary is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Federation of Icelandic Municipalities and the Hafnarfjörður Staff Association.
