This is a 50-100% position which involves supporting and assisting students at the school.

Ásland School was established in 2001 and is located in the Ásland district of Hafnarfjörður. It is a comprehensive primary school with pupils from years 1 to 10, and has around 430 pupils. The motto of Áslandsskóli is cooperation, responsibility, consideration and trust. Áslandsskóli is a health-promoting school, and these matters are actively pursued within the school. Emphasis is placed on students receiving learning material at an appropriate level, thereby allowing them to purposefully develop their talents and abilities. The school focuses on student well-being and good academic achievement.

The school operates a SMT approach to school behaviour, which emphasises approaching pupils in a positive way, paying attention to good behaviour, strengthening and promoting positive relationships between pupils, and creating a positive school atmosphere. 

Áslandsskóli is a mobile-phone-free school from Year 10 onwards.

 The school bases its strategy on four pillars of learning and education, which are: All virtues, Global understanding, Service to the community, Excellence in all that we do.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Is there support for children in lessons and in open areas?
  • Assisting with general classroom work under the guidance of a teacher
  • Works at a youth club and on summer and play schemes
  • Welcomes students and assists them.
  • Carries out patrol and monitoring duties for the premises and equipment, and keeps walkways and grounds tidy throughout the day.
  •  Assisting in the dining hall and with meal preparation.
  • Covers break time supervision, escort and supervision during the daily school routine.
  • Supervises and assists the children in play and work.
  • Other tasks as per the job description of a school and leisure assistant, and as assigned by a supervisor.

Educational and competency requirements:

  • Interest in professional work with children and young people
  • Experience in similar roles is desirable.
  • Good knowledge of Icelandic
  • General computer skills
  • Constructive in communication, flexibility and a high degree of collaboration.
  • Initiative and autonomy in work methods
  • Punctuality and conscientiousness
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Ability to work under pressure

A clean criminal record is required upon employment.

The remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Hafnarfjörður Staff Association.
