Brand new show and the collaboration with the Gaflar Theatre secured

The Fork Theatre in Hafnarfjörður

Björk Jakobs, Salka Sól and Selma Björns return with a new sketch and stand-up show under the name Just wait – it'll sort itself out. Their previous show It'll be alright was very popular, but this new one will premiere at the Town Cinema on 8th October.

„This is looking good. We were just running through the show for our lighting guy,“ says Björk when we caught up with her yesterday. „We're out of the anxiety fog and starting to have fun. Yes, the stress always comes when you're making something new. You don't know how the reception will be, but we've let go now and are in a fit of laughter,“ says Björk.

The girls have gathered new stories from life: Salka has become a mother of two, Selma is going through the menopause and Björk has become a grandmother. They promise laughter and a show where the issues of the day are allowed to roam free.

„Lots of new original songs,“ says Björk, „and the music is by Máni Svavars. He's Ellý Vilhjálms“ son, a brilliant beat-poet. They're bangers," she says.

Side-splitting laughter, and not just for women. „It's fun for all of us. The men, our technicians, are now laughing their heads off. Yes, it's a show suitable for everyone from their confirmation onwards. Everyone can laugh,“ says Björk.

„It was so nice to hear from one of the performers just now that this follow-up to the previous show was so perfect compared to what we did last time.“

Collaboration on the theatre scene in Hafnarfjörður

Björk has many irons in the fire. The City of Hafnarfjörður and the Gaflar Theatre have entered into a partnership agreement, which runs until the end of 2028. Its aim is to support a diverse theatre scene in Hafnarfjörður all year round and to foster the interest of local residents in theatre and other performing arts.

„This is fantastic,“ she says. „We're continuing to make art.“ In addition to the exhibition, Gunni and Felix will be holding a Christmas concert. Yes, the Gaflar Theatre will be putting on regular shows, typically one to two productions a year.

A special emphasis will be placed on children and young people, including drama courses for 7–12-year-olds, performing arts tuition for pupils in years 8–10, and a collaboration with the Hafnarfjörður Summer Job Scheme on arts group activities during the summer. Young performers and theatre groups from Hafnarfjörður will also be able to use the rehearsal facilities at this theatre free of charge.

Searching for the right theatre

And the agreement also stipulates that the City of Hafnarfjörður will continue the search for a future home for this Hafnarfjörður theatre.

„We sincerely hope that we find a new permanent home for the theatre in Hafnarfjörður. That is the aim,“ says Björk. „We are certainly active in the cultural life of Hafnarfjörður, even though we don't have a permanent stage. We have a great deal of experience and many up-and-coming artists from Hafnarfjörður are at the forefront of the national performing arts scene; Ebba Katrín, Berglind Alda, Mikael, Eygló Hilmars,“ she says, naming a few.

„Yes, we have an eruption of people and writers. Then we have mad veterans. Now is the time to strike. Theatre needs the right people and sparkling creativity. It would be great to utilise the dramatic talents from Hafnarfjörður that have emerged from the work.“

Yes, theatre is alive in Hafnarfjörður.
