Hafnarfjörður is looking to hire an experienced and organised individual for the position of Systems Administrator in the Development and IT Department.

The Municipality of Hafnarfjörður has been a leading municipality in the implementation of digital and technological solutions and aims to remain at the forefront. The Development and IT Department is responsible for the management and strategic planning of the municipality's and its affiliated institutions' IT matters, as well as coordinating and overseeing them. The department manages the operation of all computer systems and ensures that the handling of systems and data is in accordance with the needs of the municipality and security requirements.

The Systems Administrator plays an active role in the operation and development of the town's technological environment, provides technical guidance to colleagues and works closely with external specialists. The post reports to the Head of the Development and IT Department.

We are looking for an individual with extensive experience in the Microsoft environment, cloud services, and modern IT operations, who enjoys solving complex technical issues and can prioritise a diverse range of tasks where security, automation, and excellent user service come together. 

Key responsibilities and duties: 

  • System administration in Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Active Directory and Intune
  • Access control, device management and monitoring of technical security measures
  • Installation and operation of systems on servers in Azure and with a hosting provider, in collaboration with external service providers.
  • Participation in online operations, troubleshooting and changes with the town's online advisor.
  • Works on preventive security measures, secure system configurations and remediation of vulnerabilities.
  • Resolving complex service requests, providing technical support to colleagues, and delivering customer service as required.

Educational and competency requirements: 

  • Education in systems administration, computer science, software engineering, computer engineering or a comparable field relevant to the role.
  • Relevant professional certifications in Microsoft cloud services, system administration, access control or network administration
  • A minimum of five years' experience in system administration for Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Active Directory, as well as a good knowledge of Azure, Intune, authentication, identity management and device management.
  • Experience in independently resolving complex issues, providing technical guidance, and collaborating with service providers.
  • The ability to respond to change and adapt to changing circumstances, as well as utilising technological advances to improve operations and services.
  • Experience with improvement work, process simplification or automation in IT operations is an advantage.
  • Excellent organisational skills, autonomy and the ability to prioritise and follow up on tasks.
  • Service-mindedness, good communication skills and a willingness to share knowledge
  • Good Icelandic skills and English proficiency for technical communication and information gathering.
