Hraunvallaskóli is looking to hire a School and Leisure Assistant for a 50/50 school and leisure role at the Drekasel after-school club.

This is a position involving providing support and assistance to students at the after-school club Drekaseli, which is an after-school facility for children with autism, from 13:00 to 16:30 on weekdays. A particular focus of the role is to cater to all children, and it is important that thethe applicant has jAn attitude of determination towards students with multiple needs and a belief in the ability of each individual. 

Hraunvallar School is unique in that both a nursery and a primary school are run within its walls. The employment percentage is 50%, with the possibility of an increase to 100% by also working at Hraunvallaskóli or Hraunborg (a department for children with autism) as a school and leisure assistant for the morning. The council has been in office since 10 August. 

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Assistance with professional work with students
  • Works under guidance from the next senior manager.
  • Fosters good discipline and positive communication
  • Monitors and assists students in play and work.
  • To involve as many people as possible, regardless of ability or development, in a variety of activities and to take full part in the activities and events that are organised.
  • Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.

Educational and competency requirements:

  • Experience of working with children is desirable. 
  • Icelandic proficiency A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
  • General computer skills
  • A great interest and ambition to work with children
  • Constructive in communication, flexibility and a high degree of collaboration.
  • Initiative and autonomy in work methods
  • Punctuality and conscientiousness

The remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Hafnarfjörður Staff Association.
