Hafnarfjarðarhöfn is looking to hire a harbourmaster. It is important that the successful candidate can start work as soon as possible. Hafnarfjarðarhöfn operates in both Hafnarfjörður and Straumsvík. The daily working hours are from 07:30 to 15:30 on weekdays, in addition to evening and weekend shifts.

Key tasks:

General duties in the reception and servicing of ships

· Weighing on car and lorry scales

· On-board assistance on harbour tugs and tugs

Maintenance and upkeep of harbour quays

· Other ad-hoc tasks

Educational and competency requirements:

· Experience in harbour operations or seafaring

· A course from the Seafarers' Accident Prevention School is a requirement*

· Weighing licence a requirement*

· Full driving licence required and HGV (Category C) licence desirable.

· Other education relevant to the job.

· Good command of Icelandic and English

· Good general computer skills

· Communication and collaboration skills and a service-minded attitude

· Initiative, independence and organisational skills.

A clean criminal record is required.

Remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the relevant trade union.

If a person has not completed a course at the Coastguard College or does not hold a certificate of competency, but otherwise meets all the requirements of the job, they can be sent on a course before they start work.
