• Artwork acquisition, loan

  A new proposal was submitted requesting that the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður participate in special loan schemes for the purchase of artworks, in conjunction with a bank or banks. The matter was deferred at the last meeting.

  The Culture and Tourism Committee welcomes the proposal and instructs the cultural and tourism officer to examine the implementation of such loans in consultation with galleries and banks in Hafnarfjörður. Once the costs are known, the matter will be reconsidered.

• 0804192 – Overnight stays in Hafnarfjörður.

  Ásbjörg Una Björnsdóttir, Project Manager, attended the meeting and presented the responses received to an enquiry from a representative of the Independence Party regarding the number of overnight stays in Hafnarfjörður in 2007. Anna Bára Gunnarsdóttir, Manager of the Service Desk, attended the meeting and reported on the number of foreign visitors who visited the Service Desk in 2007.

• 0710167 – The Icelandic Film Archive and Bæjarbíó

  The Minister of Education has announced the appointment of a working group to make recommendations to enhance and strengthen the operations and increase the visibility of the National Film Archive of Iceland and Bæjarbíó in Hafnarfjörður. The working group is composed as follows: Eiríkur Þorláksson from the Ministry of Education, Marín Hrafnsdóttir for the City of Hafnarfjörður and Gunnþóra Halldórsdóttir for the National Film Archive of Iceland.

• 0710071 – The Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður

  Appointment of a family council to a working group to strengthen and develop the Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður.

  It was decided that the cultural and tourism representative will call the first meeting next week.

• 0804314 – Take a break 2008

  A new tourism brochure, 'Take a break', has been presented for promotion.

  Go over the main new features and changes that have been made to the brochure.

• 0804315 – Civic Artist and Grants for Encouragement 2008

  Applications and suggestions received have been discussed. The application deadline is 6 May.

• 0804339 – Information Centre at Leif Erikson Airport.

  The Culture and Tourism Committee of Hafnarfjörður calls on the Icelandic Tourist Board to reopen an information centre at Leif Erikson Airport. The information centre has played an extremely important role.
