    • 1210331 – Environment and Construction - 2013 Budget

      To be taken up again.

The Environment and Operations Committee approves the current 2013 implementation plan and refers it to the Town Council. Representatives of the Independence Party wish to record:$line$The accumulated maintenance backlog for Hafnarfjörður, following years of cuts due to the severe financial crisis the municipality is facing, which is a consequence of the investment boom and debt accumulation of the Social Democratic Party over the past 10 years. For 2013, it is planned to spend 240 million on new investments, which is a significantly lower amount than neighbouring municipalities spend on this area. $line$There is no funding to complete the finishing touches on roads, pavements and playgrounds in developed housing estates, even though residents there have paid the set plot prices. It is imperative that the construction of Ásvallabraut begins as soon as possible, as this road link is a very important transport improvement for the Vallasvæðið area, as well as for the development of Hádegishlíðar (Vellir 7).$line$ The sale of plots will yield little for the town, as all unsold plots are 90% mortgaged, and the heavy repayment burden from the town's foreign loans, which were negotiated last year, means that there is no adequate funding available for new investment in the town. The representatives of the Independence Party on the Environment and Operations Committee place full responsibility for the state of affairs in Hafnarfjörður on the municipal council's majority, the Social Democratic and Progressive Party and the Left-Green Movement.
