The Pentecost Run by Haukar Running Group and Brooks will take place for the eleventh time in 2023 on the second day of Pentecost, Monday 29 May at 10:00. The Pentecost Run of Haukar, Brooks and the health-promoting town of Hafnarfjörður is a spectacular trail run through the beautiful countryside around Hafnarfjörður. The run starts and finishes at Ásvellir in Hafnarfjörður, and there is a choice of three routes: 14 km, 17.5 km and 22 km. The race has been organised and run by volunteers from the Haukar Jogging Group, which has around 100 members. There is a strong sense of unity in making the race as spectacular as possible, and it has won awards as one of the best trail races in the country. Over these 11 years, the race has grown and thrived, selling out every time. The race is recognised by ITRA; the 22 km route awards 1 point, and all distances will award ITRA points.

About the run

  • Distances: 14 km, 17.5 km, 22 km
  • Date 29 May 2023

In connection with the Run, the Haukar Jogging Group has generously supported the Hafnarfjörður Forestry Association and the Haukar Sports Club, and will do so again this year. It has been decided not to award any medals except for the top three places in the men's and women's categories for each distance. Instead, 500 krónur from each runner's registration fee will go to the Haukar sports club. The race will be organised in a similar format to previous years, but with the proviso that runners must be prepared for changes to be made depending on how the situation develops with the Covid pandemic.

The Pentecost Run is an off-road race, so it is important to take care on uneven ground.  Runners take part in the Pentecost Run at their own risk. The organisers cannot be held liable in any way for any damage that competitors may suffer or cause to others whilst taking part in the run.  By registering for the race and collecting a race number, the participant confirms their understanding of and agreement to the race's terms and conditions.

Runners are encouraged to view the photos and videos from the Pentecost Run, which give a clear picture of the atmosphere at the race.
