The position of Planning Officer was advertised in January 2023, with a deadline for applications of 9 February. Six applicants applied for the post. The appointment of Lilja Grétarsdóttir, architect, to the post has been finalised. Þormóður will continue to serve as the planning officer until 1 June. 

The position of Planning Officer was advertised for applications in January 2023, with a deadline of 9 February. Six applicants applied for the post and one withdrew their application. The appointment of Lilja Grétarsdóttir, architect, to the post has now been finalised.She will start working part-time from 1 April and take up the post of planning officer from 1 June, when the current planning officer retires. 

Extensive and broad experience, including working within local authorities.

Lilja graduated in architecture from the Aarhus School of Architecture in the spring of 1988, holds a licence from the Minister for Industry to use the professional title of Building Surveyor – Architect, a licence from the Minister for the Environment to submit principal and detailed drawings of houses and other structures, and a licence to practise planning.  Lilja has extensive and solid experience as an architect, having worked on master plans, working drawings, subdivision solutions and interiors. She also works independently on projects and has a good insight into the work of designers in the general market. From 1993 to 2004, Lilja worked as an architect for the Town Planning Department of Hafnarfjörður Municipality, and since 2004 has worked as an architect for the City Planner in Reykjavík. In her work for the local authorities, Lilja has managed numerous large and small projects, as well as working on planning and assessing applications and enquiries regarding the development of settlements and buildings.  

The Planning Officer manages the day-to-day operations of the planning department and ensures that professional working practices are upheld in all its work. The role involves participating in strategy development and providing leadership in the development and implementation of innovations and new priorities within the department, ensuring it is at the forefront of user services and in compliance with applicable processes and regulations.
