Change to the detailed plan, City Centre R4 in Hafnarfjörður – Víkingastræti 2

At its meeting on 15 March 2023, the Hafnarfjörður Town Council resolved to advertise a proposal for an amendment to the detailed plan for the plot at 2 Víkingastræti, in accordance with section 1 of Article 43 of the Planning Act No. 123/2010. This concerns an amendment to the detailed plan for the Hafnarfjörður Town Centre, plot R4.

The local plan amendment provides for the demolition of a building on the site at 2 Viking Street.  which houses a theatre (the Gaflar Theatre), and that in its place a new building will be erected on the site, 3–4 storeys with a basement. The maximum building volume of the hotel extension will be 3,510 m². The new building will accommodate up to 65 hotel rooms, will connect to the existing hotel and will form a single operational unit. A tower will be permitted at the entrance to the new building, and balconies will be provided for all hotel rooms on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors. In addition, a proposal is made to alter the boundaries of plots no. 1, 2 and 3 on Víkingastræti and to combine them into a single plot. Provision will be made for 21 parking spaces on the combined plot. A right of way for traffic and pedestrians will be established.

The proposal will be on display at the Hafnarfjörður Service Centre, Strandgata 6, and at the Department of Environment and Planning, Norðurhellu 2, from 05.04. to 17.05. 2023.  You can also familiarise yourself with the outline planning application below.
