Friday 2 June, 6pm–9pm Visitors will be invited to take a behind-the-scenes look at the museum while new exhibitions are being installed, which will open on Saturday, 10 June at 2 pm. On the one hand, it is the exhibition On the sea of tranquillity, which will feature works by Hildur Ásgeirsdóttir Jónsson, and on the other hand, it is the exhibition A hesitant line by Elísabet Brynhildardóttir. Museum specialists will then welcome visitors and discuss the process of creating an exhibition, and visitors will also have the opportunity to design their own exhibition in a model of the museum's main hall.

The museum is currently celebrating a major anniversary, as it has now been 40 years since its foundation. It was on 1 June 1983 that the couple, Ingibjörg Sigurjónsdóttir and Sverrir Magnússon, presented the City of Hafnarfjörður with a deed of gift for their property at 34 Strandgata, along with a substantial art collection which formed the foundation of Hafnarborg – the cultural and art centre of Hafnarfjörður. To mark the occasion, birthday cake will be served, and photo albums and artefacts from the museum's early years will be on display. These items are normally kept in storage and are rarely seen by anyone other than staff at Hafnarborg.

Walk into town is part of the programme for the Bright Days festival in Hafnarfjörður, which begins on 1 June, on the town's 115th anniversary. The cultural festival celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and it has become a tradition for museums, artists' studios and shops to stay open late on the first Friday during the festival. The aim of the festival is to reflect the diverse cultural life that takes place in Hafnarfjörður.

Free admission – all are welcome.
