Reykjavik HEMA club is hosting the Midnight Knight Fight during the White Nights in Hafnarfjörður.
English below
—
The match starts at 23:00 and ends at 01:00.
The tournament is sponsored by Björtir Dagar / Hafnarfjörður Municipality.
Everyone is welcome to try sparring from 9 pm when we start setting up for the tournament.
—
The tournament will be judged according to standard fencing rules (1 judge and 1 assistant judge, 3-minute bouts or to 8 points), but it won't be a serious tournament – everything will be provided to make it fun:
Variable weapons – Rapier, sabre, longsword, rondel dagger, sword and shield, spear and buckler (small shield), -/all plastic weapons/-, are just a few of the weapons that will be fought with. Combatants draw a token from a hat for each fight, which determines which weapons they must use against each other. This makes some fights much more interesting and others absolute farces!
Points competition This is not a knockout competition but a points-based one. Therefore, the aim is to score as many points as possible in the three minutes the fight lasts. The competition does not end when everyone has fought everyone else, but when the tournament's time slot is over, i.e. ~2 hours after the tournament starts. This means that each person fights more matches than in a normal knockout tournament.
You get as many points as you score in the fight (maximum 8 points).
Competitors will be randomly assigned an opponent for each round, but they may swap opponents between themselves if they have already competed against each other. This is, however, entirely their own choice. This should make the competition more enjoyable for the competitors.
We'll probably add more fun features closer to the time.
—
Before the tournament, from 9 p.m., there will be a chance to come along and try out sparring with foam swords for anyone who fancies it. We'll then be meeting to set up for the tournament, and everyone is welcome to take part, even the competitors!
We encourage everyone to come along and watch the tournament, as it's going to be absolutely brilliant to watch!
Drunkenness will invalidate participation in any activity taking place at the event.
Anyone aged 16 and over can sign up – no experience is necessary and basic equipment can be borrowed (up to a certain point).
To register, you need to send an email to:
reykjavikhemaclub@gmail.com
with the title:

and include a name and ID number, as well as stating whether equipment is required.
However, there are only a few places at the tournament: First come, first served.

The tournament will be judged according to standard fencing rules (1 referee and 1 assistant referee, 3-minute bouts or up to 8 points) but it will not be a serious tournament – it will all be silly and fun:
Random weapons – Rapier, sabre, longsword, dagger (rondell), sword and shield, spear and buckler (small shield), -/all plastic weapons/-, are just some of the weapons that will be used. Fighters pull slips of paper from a hat before each bout which determines which weapons they must use against each other. This makes some battles much more interesting and others a complete joke!
Point system – This is not a knockout competition, but a point system. It's about getting as many points as possible in the 3 minutes of each bout. The competition does not end when everyone has competed against everyone else, but when the tournament's time limit is up, e.g. ~2 hours after the tournament starts. This means that each individual competes in more bouts than in a normal knockout competition.
You get as many points as you score in the bout (max 8 points)
Competitors will be randomly assigned an opponent in each round, but they may switch opponents among themselves if they have competed against each other before; it is entirely their own choice. This should make the competition fun for the contestants.
We'll probably add more fun variables later.

We will arrive at 21:00 and everyone (even competitors!) is welcome to join us and try fencing with foam swords before the tournament starts.
We encourage everyone to attend and watch the tournament, as it will be a real blast!
