A full working week reduction (36 hours instead of 40 hours) has been introduced in all of Hafnarfjörður's nurseries and applies to all staff. Implementations suitable for each individual setting are followed, which do not compromise either the service or the quality of the nursery's work. Unskilled staff negotiate the arrangement for the working time reduction with managers at their workplace, and the principle is that a solution is found that suits each individual. Unskilled staff take their reduction each month.

- From 21 December to 2 January
- Two days in February when there are half-term holidays in the primary schools of Hafnarfjörður.

Special support and encouragement
A strong emphasis has been placed on strengthening and supporting unqualified staff within the nurseries, partly through support for professional qualification courses. Since 2015, staff in the nurseries of the City of Hafnarfjörður have received scholarships from the municipality.n order to study for a qualification in early years education. Numerous unqualified staff have taken advantage of this opportunity and the support for professional development.
