Tuesday, 3 October at 12 noon The next lunchtime concert in Hafnarborg will be, but this time it will be the tenor Gissur Páll Gissurarson guest Antonia Hevesi, pianist and artistic director of the concert series. They will then perform arias from operas and operettas by Mozart, Donizetti, Massenet and Lehár. The title of the concert is the provocative question, „What is love?“.“
Gissur Páll Gissurarson, a tenor, has a long career behind him, but he made his stage debut at only eleven in the title role in Oliver Twist. In 2001, he then began his studies at the Conservatorio Giovanni Battista Martini in Bologna. His first opera role in Italy was then Ruiz in the opera The Troubadour in Ravenna. In 2004, he took part in a production of That's how they all are, under the direction of Claudio Abbado in Ferrara, Reggio Emilia and Modena. Gissur Páll has sung the role of Danilo, among others. The cheerful widow, the role of Nemorino in The love potion and Almaviva in The Barber in Seville. He has also sung in productions of Werther by Massenet and The Breasts of Tiresias by Poulenc, to name but a few. It is also worth mentioning that in 2006, Gissur Páll took part in two international singing competitions in Italy, winning awards in both.
In December 2010, Gissur Páll's first solo album was released., Ideal, which was very well received. In 2014, he then recorded twelve well-known Italian opera arias with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Petri Sakari. Gissur Páll then sang the role of Rodolfo in the Icelandic Opera's production of The Bohemian Life in the spring of 2012 and was subsequently nominated for the Íslensku tónlistarverðlaunin as Singer of the Year, but he won the award for Classical Singer of the Year. In recent years, Gissur Páll has appeared in Love potion Donizettis in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, concerts in Westphalia in Germany and a concert series in Pennsylvania in the United States, as well as an opera festival in Estonia and numerous concerts and other projects in Iceland.
Antonia Hevesi, a pianist, has been the artistic director of the lunchtime concerts at Hafnarborg since their inception, and they have been a regular feature of the museum's programme since 2003. There, Antonía has been joined by many of the country's leading singers, with the aim of the concerts being to give visitors the opportunity to enjoy live music at their leisure. The lunchtime concerts are usually held on the first Tuesday of each month during the winter season.
The concert starts at 12 noon and will last for about half an hour. The venue opens at 11:30 am and the concert is open to all, subject to capacity. Admission is free.
