With an Icelandic accent, you can always find an answer.
Staff of Hafnarfjörður's nurseries can use Just a numberThe app is free of charge. It is intended for staff who wish to improve their basic Icelandic skills. Therefore, it is not suitable for more advanced users.
To begin with, the app is only being offered to human resources at the town's nurseries. Interested staff receive a link by text message, and that's a wrap. The rollout is currently underway. It is taught using pictures and sounds, so it is not necessary to know English to learn Icelandic.
Nursery vocabulary in the app this spring
The app is a major step forward. It is still being developed. A special category will be added to the app this spring, tailored to vocabulary for nursery school work. When this happens, there will be a consultation on which words should be included.
The app Just a number Teaches Icelandic as children learn languages. The programme is based on artificial intelligence and Icelandic language technology. Emphasis is placed on presentation, pronunciation, conversation and vocabulary.
The app has many advantages, but the main one is that it provides a key to the community. One of the greatest is that it understands people when they speak with an accent. This is extremely important – after all, Icelandic is in all sorts of forms today.
Keep going, Iceland.
