Sketches // Sigurjón Már Svanbergsson
Sketching is not about precision but rather about capturing the main points, form and movement on paper. To achieve this…
Feminine energy now takes over the Little Gallery with all its nurturing care and nourishment.
The installation is composed of works that Solveig has
won last year and to date.
Solveig graduated with a Master's degree in Fine Art from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2015 and has been active in the field ever since. She works across media, drawing on whatever sources of material suit her and capture her imagination at any given time. Her main subjects relate to environmental and social issues, and often feature feminist references.
The female figures adorning the exhibition are of various kinds: well-known mythical characters, buxom creatures, lovesick and desperate hags or goddesses. One can also discern the artist's self-image, or a kind of alter ego.
Societal expectations placed on women include being sexual beings, whilst also being able to bear and raise children and being nurturing and caring in every respect. Symbols of womanhood are expressed in the works through pink and red colours, breasts and blood.
The exhibition opening will be on 21st March from 18:00-20:00 and all are welcome!
Other opening times:
Friday 22 March 13:00 – 18:00
Saturday 23rd March 12:00 – 17:00
Sunday 24 March 14:00 – 17:00
The event is sponsored by the Culture and Tourism Committee of the City of Hafnarfjörður.
