Hafnarfjörður is the third largest town in the country, a progressive and family-friendly municipality offering a wide range of services at over 70 locations throughout the town. Of these, nine leisure centres operate from within the town's primary schools, with a large team of staff working in a professional, creative and fun environment with a wealth of opportunities and amenities. A great emphasis is placed on professional and effective leisure activities for all age groups. We offer a constructive, creative, fun and rewarding working environment where staff, children and young people share their ideas, knowledge and experience, and create a community together characterised by diversity, creative thinking and joy.

After-school club

Children in Years 1-4 can take part in a wide range of activities at the after-school clubs at their local school from the end of the school day until 5 p.m. every weekday, on half-days and on INSET days.  The role of the after-school clubs is to offer a wide range of leisure activities after the regular school day has finished. The activities are based on choice, group work, workshops and outdoor pursuits, with a mid-afternoon snack on offer. The aim is
that every child is able to enjoy themselves and develop in an environment characterised by warmth, security and respect.

Youth centres

In the town's youth clubs, children and young people have a space for leisure and socialising with their peers in a safe environment. The activities, which are designed for everyone in Years 5 to 10, have a preventative, educational and developmental value and are tailored to age and maturity. Activities take place in clubs, committees, group work, open sessions and temporary projects, with a focus on a wide variety of topics and on reaching those who, for example, need social support. Open during break times and lunch periods when possible, in addition to which the children and young people can pop in and talk to staff if they have anything on their minds.
