Sketches // Sigurjón Már Svanbergsson
Sketching is not about precision but rather about capturing the main points, form and movement on paper. To achieve this…
Yellow Dream – Recurring Dream – 1 invites you to explore the transience of dreams and life. This participatory performance exhibition celebrates the Icelandic summer, the endless sun and the surreal feelings it evokes.
The exhibition features cyanotype-developed photographs that capture the beauty of the sun as a symbol of fleeting moments and highlight the relationship between light and time. In the centre of the space is a table with a cloth made from an undeveloped cyanotype under a clear plastic sheet. The table is decorated with plates in white and yellow tones, offering delicacies that might seem sweet but will likely surprise your taste buds with their salty or sour flavour. Guests are encouraged to experience this unpredictability, thereby reflecting the unexpected occurrences in dreams.
On the opening day, the artist will wear a costume inspired by summer flower beds, with plants as part of the costume's design. Guests will be offered yellow drinks with dreamlike names such as „Dreamland“. The treats on the table offer a multi-sensory experience that encourages guests to participate and reflect, making them part of the artwork. The tablecloth serves as a tangible image of the interaction between the art and the visitors, preserving memories of the experience. When visitors move or remove items, they shape the image of the tablecloth, bringing out the dialogue between the work and its audience.
After the opening, the tablecloth will be displayed on the wall alongside a screen showing a video of the opening event. The table will be removed, and only the clean items will remain. Glasses and cutlery will be arranged on the floor. The exhibition transforms from a performance to a dialogue and finally into an installation that mirrors the ephemeral nature of dreams.
„YELLOW DREAM” explores the dreams, light and ephemeral beauty of life, with the tablecloth as a time capsule that preserves fleeting moments and maintains the dialogue between art and the audience.
The exhibition opening will be on Friday, 19th July from 16:00-20:00 and all are welcome!
Other opening times:
Saturday 6th July 12:00 – 17:00
Sunday 7th July 14:00 – 17:00
The event is sponsored by the Culture and Tourism Committee of the City of Hafnarfjörður.
