The Moss in 3rd place in the Stíl design competition
The team from the Mosann youth club at Hraunvallar school came 3rd in the Stíl design competition, organised by Samfés. A total of 30 teams took part and the result was excellent.

The team from the Mosann youth club at Hraunvallar school came in 3rd place in the Stíl design competition, organised by Samfés, on Saturday, 1st March. The team consisted of Iva Matanovic and Sonia Laura Krasko. Both are pupils in the school's 10th grade. The team worked on the design during their school choice period, where they designed, sewed and worked on the portfolio itself.
The youth club Garðalundur came out on top this year, but the competition has been held since the turn of the millennium in collaboration with the youth clubs of Kópavogur, or Félkó. „What makes Stíl such a unique event is the close collaboration that has developed in many places between youth clubs and primary schools. Many primary schools offer an optional course where pupils work on the design and other aspects of the competition in collaboration with the youth club. This collaboration gives young people valuable opportunities to develop their talents and work together in a creative environment,“ it says on Samfés website.
Third of thirty items
Third place is a fantastic achievement, with 30 teams taking part and submitting impressive portfolios showcasing their ideation and creative process. The theme was „Pirates of the Caribbean“ and the competitors showed incredible originality in their design, make-up and hairstyling!
Stíll is a unique platform where schools and youth centres work together to foster the creativity and talents of young people. The theme was taken from the film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
Tea, leather and a corset
Iva and Sonia used a cotton sheet for the shirt, which they dyed with tea to get the right colour, and also used old lace from curtains. They then bought leather and blue cotton fabric, which was used for the skirt and the corset. Over the shoulders, they used old fishing net, which refers to the origin of the idea.
