Sketches // Sigurjón Már Svanbergsson
Sketching is not about precision but rather about capturing the main points, form and movement on paper. To achieve this…
My name is Emil Jóhann Sigurðsson, but my artist name is Emil J. Sig. I started my artistic career in Spain in 2017. I lived there for one year, and you could say that Spain made me the artist I am today.
I am a self-taught artist who has learnt to paint through online courses. In 2021, however, I enrolled at the Reykjavík School of Visual Arts and studied art for one year, having previously taken several courses at the Kópavogur School of Art. This is my third exhibition and the first with a water lily theme, but a few years prior, I had held a flower exhibition and a mixed exhibition.
The inspiration for the works in this exhibition comes from various sources, including Icelandic nature, French culture, Monet, and more.
But why water lilies, you might ask? I believe the world is in great turmoil and anxiety is on the rise. I therefore wanted to paint pictures for this exhibition that create a sense of calm and inner peace in the viewer. I want you, dear viewer, to be able to imagine that you are by a pond with calm water, where there are water lilies, and are relaxing in the present moment.
The exhibition opening will be on Thursday, 3rd April from 18:00-20:00 and all are welcome!
Other opening times:
Friday 4 April 13:00 – 18:00
Saturday 5 April 12:00 – 16:00
Sunday 6 April 14:00 – 17:00
The event is sponsored by the Cultural and Tourism Committee.
