The car parks in the city centre will be 60-minute car parks.

60-minute short-stay parking in the city centre

All parking spaces on Strandgata, Linnetsstígur and on Vesturgata by the Folk Museum are now 60-minute spaces. All 30-minute signs will be replaced with 60-minute signs. The City of Hafnarfjörður has tightened its short-term parking regulations.

A summer employee has been hired to enforce the rule so that the spaces are not used by the same people all day. If cars are left in the spaces for too long, we remind owners of the rule with a note and encourage them to move their vehicle.

Thousands of guests every weekend

Tens of thousands of visitors are expected at the local music festival, Hjarta Hafnarfjarðar. During the weeks the festival runs, the car parks behind the Town Hall and the Town Cinema will be reserved for the event. It is too time-consuming to dismantle the equipment between weekends.

Out of respect for the shops, restaurants and other service providers in the town centre, the rules have not only been sharpened.  All staff who work here in the city centre are strongly encouraged to park their cars further away, walk to work and do their bit to help keep the service running smoothly.

Many of us have to park our cars and get to work. There are plenty of car parks further from the town centre, offering a chance for a walk. Yes, now it's time to take the step towards better health, a more vibrant town centre, fantastic service and great evenings out here in Hafnarfjörður.

• 400 metres or 6 minutes: Car park at Hafnarfjarðarkirkja and the Music School
• 700 metres or 15 minutes: Car park at Víðistaðaskóli
• 750 metres or 15 minutes: Car park at the school on Nú – Reykjavíkurvegur
• 850 metres or 15 minutes: Car park at Björk Gymnastics Club
• 850 metres or 15 minutes: Car park at Lækjarskóli
• 1100 m or 16 minutes: Car park at Flensburg School
