An even better town – idea collection and youth summit

This week, it was launched. the „An Even Better Town for Children“ idea collection, as well as a youth council to be held at Sjónarhóll on 16 November. The aim is to reach children and young people in Hafnarfjörður and give them a stronger voice and an opportunity to contribute their ideas concerning their home town of Hafnarfjörður and the services provided by the municipality. á maintenance. 

The Hafnarfjörður Youth Council is a dynamic council that formally presents its ideas to the town council at least once a year.

The knowledge and experience of children and young people is a great asset to the local authority.

This week, it was launched. the „An Even Better Town for Children“ idea collection, as well as a youth council to be held at Sjónarhóll on 16 November. Representatives from all the primary schools, aged 14-16, will attend the council. The aim of the idea collection and the youth council is to engage with the children and young people of Hafnarfjörður, giving them a stronger voice and an opportunity to contribute their ideas concerning their home town of Hafnarfjörður and the services provided by the municipality. á ...to the councillors, managers and staff. Children are and always will be the priority for the City of Hafnarfjörður, and this idea collection is part of the municipality's journey to receive recognition from UNICEF Iceland as a child-friendly municipality. Child-friendly local authorities work purposefully to fulfil children's rights, and UNICEF in Iceland supports the local authorities in their implementation.

Posters under the heading: „An even better town for children“ have been put up in all of Hafnarfjörður's schools and elsewhere around the town. á places frequented by children and young people. Systematic consultation with children and young people  

Hafnarfjörður is working to implement United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into all the administration and activities of the municipality, under the auspices of the project Child-friendly municipalities. The municipality's decision to implement The Convention on the Rights of the Child includes a recognition that the knowledge and experience of children and young people is valuable to the municipality. Child-friendly local authorities promote the active participation of children in matters that concern them, and they consult with children and young people systematically to improve, adapt and expand their service. Children and young people are encouraged to share their ideas and opinions, and parents/guardians are encouraged to raise awareness of the project and the value of as many people as possible taking part for the community and the local authority's services.
