Milla's Christmas Reflection
„In the run-up to Christmas, we are often asked if we are looking forward to it. It inevitably brings with it expectations. While the to-do list is long, we must not forget to enjoy ourselves and be happy, joyful and have fun. Society expects us to feel a sense of anticipation. To look forward to it,“ writes Margrét Lilja Vilmundardóttir, priest at the Fríkirkjan in Hafnarfjörður, in the town's Christmas magazine.
„At the same time as the anticipation is certainly great for many, Christmas can be anxiety-provoking for others. It's somehow the case that all emotions and feelings are magnified around the festive season. The emotions are intense and deep. Joy is never greater and sorrow never heavier. Love is never more magnificent and loneliness more lonely. Life in its purest and rawest form. Life in its beautiful form.
Perhaps that is precisely what Christmas is meant to be. A Christmas that reminds us that despite the pitch-black darkness of the depths of winter, the warm light will once again warm the world. Christmas reminds us of the light that was born into the world, small and fragile but at the same time so infinitely strong and powerful. A small child, the baby Jesus, the beginning of all, a new life. Hope itself.
In this context, it is lovely to admire the Christmas lights that adorn houses and gardens, a small act of love from the residents who send out light into the world for those of us passing by. The Christmas lights bear witness to solidarity and hope, and to the fact that love is the greatest.
God give you a Merry Christmas.“
