Increased opportunities for health promotion and physical activity in the area for all groups

Ásmegin Physiotherapy is located at Ásvellir 2 (Ásvallalaug), and the location already offers a wide range of training, such as aqua aerobics and group classes in the gym, in collaboration with other clubs and businesses in the building. The location of ten classrooms in the immediate vicinity increases the opportunities and possibilities for pool-goers, residents and clients of Ásmegin to promote their health and exercise in the area.

A short walk to the next bench – a community project that is flourishing in the town

Broken Benches is a community project that has been running since 2013 and is now at a stage where residents of Hafnarfjörður and other visitors can walk through almost all of the town's neighbourhoods and rest on a bench at intervals of about 250–300 metres. The aim is to encourage increased physical activity, particularly among older people, and enable them to go for walks in their local area. The project involves local authorities, businesses, community organisations, institutions and even individuals sponsoring a bench or benches by covering the cost of their creation.

55 benches from over 30 contributors

Over 30 companies, institutions and organisations have taken part in the project since 2013 by donating one or more benches. In total, the number of benches has now reached 55 with the donation from Ásmegin. The benches are produced by Málmsteypan Hellu, which also donates the eleventh bench. The benches are marked with the name of the donor or of the person the donor wishes to dedicate the bench to. The Brúkum benches are a joint project of the Eldri borgarar in Hafnarfirði, the Félag sjúkraþjálfara, and the City of Hafnarfjörður.
