Autumn Nursery Enrolment – Applications by 1st March

Preparations and work for the autumn enrolment in Hafnarfjörður's nurseries are currently underway.  Parents and guardians who have not yet applied for a nursery place for their children are kindly asked to do so by 1 March. A child must be registered as a resident of Hafnarfjörður to begin attending nursery. The eldest children are enrolled first.

Applications are submitted via the Vala registration system.

Preparations and work for the autumn enrolment at Hafnarfjörður's nursery schools are currently underway. Parents and guardians who have not yet applied for a nursery place for their children are kindly asked to Apply for a nursery place through the Vala registration system. An application must be submitted by 1 March of the year the placement is requested. A child must be resident in Hafnarfjörður to start at a nursery school, but they can be placed on a waiting list if they are resident elsewhere.

You can apply for a nursery place for your child as soon as their National Insurance number is registered. The waiting list is ranked by date of birth and year, so the oldest children are admitted first. You can apply to more than one nursery school, and parents and guardians are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the available options. If there is no space at the first-choice nursery school, a place will be offered at a school from your secondary choices. The nursery school is the first stage of education, where children are nurtured through creative and stimulating work. There are 18 nursery schools in Hafnarfjörður.
