Numberless vehicles are a growing problem

Unregistered vehicles parked on streets, in car parks and other areas owned by the City of Hafnarfjörður are a growing problem. Such vehicles can cause inconvenience, reduce accessibility and safety, and affect the appearance of the local area. If you have a vehicle that is not in use, we encourage you to move it to an appropriate storage location or dispose of it in accordance with the regulations.

Parking spaces are for vehicles in use.

The Municipality of Hafnarfjörður regularly and systematically checks public areas where vehicles without number plates have been left. If a number plate-less vehicle is found on a street, car park or other council-owned area, a courtesy notice is placed on the vehicle, giving the owner a 7-day period to respond and remove it. If the vehicle is not removed within the specified period, it will be removed at the owner's expense, in accordance with the authority granted under the Hafnarfjörður Police Ordinance.

On private plots

When unregistered vehicles are located on private premises, such as at blocks of flats or on company grounds, it is the responsibility of the landowner or owners to take appropriate action. Hafnarfjörður is not authorised to remove vehicles from private premises, except in special circumstances. We encourage residents' associations and other landowners to discuss the matter with the vehicle's owner and seek a solution if necessary.

All suggestions are welcome.

We thank residents for their cooperation. Through a joint effort, we can help to create a tidier, safer and more accessible environment for us all, and ensure that all areas and spaces are in active and appropriate use.
