Find the right hobby at the Hobby Fair
Yes, our children often search for a long time to find the best hobby – the one that suits them. Now they have the opportunity to discover many of them all at once. The aim of the first Leisure Fair in Hafnarfjörður is to shorten their search. The Leisure Fair will be held in the sports hall on Strandgata on Saturday 29 August from 10 am to 2 pm.
Fifteen clubs are presenting their activities. Often, you don't need much equipment to be able to take part. Today, we'll be introducing three of them.
- Hafnarfjörður Ski Club At the Hafnarfjörður Boarding Club, children and young people can practise skateboarding, snowboarding and BMX and have fun on their own terms. The club has around 350 members. Equipment can be borrowed for skateboarding and BMX training, but members need their own equipment for snowboarding training. Further information is available at The board game club's homepage and the society's Instagram page.
- Hafnarfjörður Boxing Club Boxing develops, among other things, self-confidence, discipline, strength, stamina, speed and coordination. Training sessions at the Hafnarfjörður Boxing Club are varied, challenging and fun, and around 120 members train at the club. You can read more about the club on the society's homepage. Registration takes place in Abler, but you can also get in touch via Facebook or Instagram, or pop in at Suðurhellu 5. Newly registered members receive boxing gloves and a skipping rope.
- Hafnarfjörður Badminton Club Badminton is a fast and fun sport suitable for people of all ages. At the Badminton Club of Hafnarfjörður, you can train on your own terms, whether your goal is to compete or to enjoy some good exercise. Just over 700 people train with the club. Information is available at the society's homepage but a request for a trial must be made by email to bh@bhbadminton.is. The club lends spades and feather balls.
- The Riding Club Sörli At the Sörli Clubhouse, children and young people aged 9–18 can experience the world of adventure of the Icelandic horse without owning their own horse. They learn how to handle horses and go on rides, but it is also possible to hire a space for your own horse. Over a thousand members practise equestrian sports on Sörli's grounds. Further information is available Sorla's homepage. Practitioners need their own helmet and shoes with a heel, and protective armour is recommended.
