Car-Free Day – Free bus travel

Car-Free Day is today, 22 September, and it's free to bus Today. We encourage individuals, businesses, societies, organisations and local authorities to take part.

Cities and towns in Iceland have, since 2022, participated in a coordinated initiative by local authorities in Europe to promote sustainable transport. The theme of the initiative is European Mobility Week. It is held from 16th to 22nd September each year.

The aim of the week is to introduce urban residents to modes of transport that are simultaneously environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and improve people's health, while also having a positive impact on the environment and the atmosphere.Riding the bus in the capital region and on intercity routes will be free today. The theme of Transport Week this year is Transport for all
