Hafnarfjörður municipality and Keilir Golf Club have entered into an agreement for the construction of a new machinery and equipment shed, based on the partnership agreements between Hafnarfjörður Municipality and the Hafnarfjörður Sports Association. The agreement covers the construction of a 480-square-metre frost-free machinery shed at Steinholt 7, Hafnarfjörður. The project is scheduled for completion in 2023, and preparatory work, design, and groundworks have already begun. The development is considered an important step in the development of the sport of golf and for the maintenance of the town's football pitches.

Keilir takes care of the pitches at the town's sports clubs.

Facilities for machinery and equipment have been limited at Keili, and the club has had to store machinery outdoors over the winter and rent space elsewhere to keep the equipment. At the same time, there has been no facility for staff to carry out repairs and maintenance on the club's equipment. The City of Hafnarfjörður has a contract with Keili for the upkeep of the grass pitches for the sports clubs, and it is therefore in everyone's best interest to ensure that the club's machinery is protected and maintained to the highest standard, so that both the grass football pitches and the golf course can be looked after in the best possible way.

Gudmundur Örn Guðmundsson, treasurer of the Keilir board, and Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, the mayor, sign an agreement. Here with Ólafur Þór Ágústsson, managing director of Keilir.

The current budget is 88 million.

The City of Hafnarfjörður agrees that the works in question will be in accordance with the city's partnership agreements with the Sports Federation and will pay approximately 80% of the estimated construction cost, while the Keilir Golf Club will pay approximately 20%. The municipality has agreed to the existing cost estimate of 88 million króna, so the share of Hafnarfjörður municipality will be approximately 70.4 million króna and the share of the Keilir Golf Club approximately 17.6 million króna. Golfklúbburinn Keilir will manage all construction work in accordance with the existing construction plan.  All structures located on the Golf Club Keilir's premises are non-transferable, unless approved by the Hafnarfjörður Town Council. In such an event, the proceeds shall be allocated to the rightful parties, the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður and Golf Club Keilir, in proportion to their ownership of the structures.

The agreement was approved at the town council meeting on 9 February 2023.
