Correction to the lease payments for 12 plots in the harbour area
At the turn of the year, the City of Hafnarfjörður's municipal treasury took over the accounting and finances of the Port of Hafnarfjörður.
At the turn of the year, the City of Hafnarfjörður's municipal treasury took over the accounting and financial management of the Port of Hafnarfjörður, which includes, among other things, the collection of site and property fees for the Port of Hafnarfjörður.
The aim of the change was for all of the town's institutions to be on the same accounting system and to use the same procedures for the town's bookkeeping.
The change revealed that the registration of 12 plots of land owned by the Port of Hafnarfjörður was incorrect, which resulted in the land rent being collected twice, i.e. the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður collected the land rent according to the tariff and the Port of Hafnarfjörður also. The correction is mainly for the last two years but extends further back in time.
„We apologise for this and the matter has now been addressed and the plot charges for 2015 have been corrected. the registration will be corrected with the Land Registry and the relevant landowners have been sent a letter and subsequently, any overcharged fees will be refunded, amounting to a total of 15.5 million krónur,“ says Haraldur L. Haraldsson, the Mayor.
