The City of Hafnarfjörður is seeking a planning designer for a planned redevelopment in the western part of Hraunin in Hafnarfjörður, an area bordered by Fjarðarhraun to the east, Reykjavíkurvegur to the west, and Flatahraun to the south.

The City of Hafnarfjörður is seeking a planning designer for a planned redevelopment in the western part of Hraunin in Hafnarfjörður, an area bordered by Fjarðarhraun to the east, Reykjavíkurvegur to the west, and Flatahraun to the south.
Development and overall structure of the area
Ideas are sought for the development and overall planning of an area, where it is being converted from an industrial zone into a mixed-use, high-density development. The main objective is to improve the quality of the environment, promote better use of the land through increased building volume, and enhance its diversity of use, including residential development. Reference should be made to the approved area framework plan from 2008 and the planning statement for the new detailed plan for Hraunin – West, dated June 2016.
Conditions of eligibility
3–5 candidates who meet the minimum eligibility requirements will be selected. Applicants must hold a Master's degree in Architecture, Urban Planning or a comparable discipline, and have experience in planning for a project similar to the one in question. Furthermore, the applicant must hold a licence in accordance with Articles 25 and 26 of the Building Regulations Act No. 160/2010. If the applicant is a group, at least one member of the group must meet the above-mentioned requirements. All applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be considered, and their participation will be decided by a draw. Participants will be paid for their proposals, kr. 1,500,000 plus VAT. The City of Hafnarfjörður reserves the right to use any proposal, in whole or in part. Further planning work on the site will not be restricted to the participants.
Application deadline and documents to be submitted
The deadline for applications is 27 June 2016. It is anticipated that the decision on the selection of participants will be made a week later, and that work on the proposals will begin immediately thereafter. Proposals must be submitted by 15 September 2016 on 4 A1 boards, together with a report, to the Environmental and Planning Services of Hafnarfjörður Municipality, Norðurhellu 2, 221 Hafnarfjörður.

- Planning Description – for an industrial area in Hraunum – west
- Hafnarfjörður Master Plan 2013-2025 with explanatory report
- Local planning schemes for the area and adjacent areas
- Digital map base with an aerial photograph of the area
In addition, reference is made to laws and regulations concerning planning, structures and the environment.
