The health capital of Hafnarfjörður is looking for teams to take part in a rowing race in the harbour on Seamen's Day itself. Seamen's Day will be celebrated in Hafnarfjörður on Sunday, 2nd June, as it is throughout the country. For over 70 years, a tradition has been to hold a sculling competition on this day, and workplaces, groups of friends, neighbours, sports teams and all interested parties are encouraged to get together and take part. Each team consists of six rowers and one skipper.
Team registration by 30th May – training now open
At its peak, nine teams were registered to play – it would be pleasing to beat that record this year. Those interested are asked to contact Sunna Magnúsdóttir, Project Manager for Culture and Events at Hafnarfjörður Municipality, via email: menning@hafnarfjordur.is. The rowing boats are now available for the teams' training, and any further information is also provided via this email address.
Row, row, row, row – come on!
An ambitious programme for Seafarers' Day 2024 will be unveiled shortly.
