Home payments eleven months a year

Announcements

As of July, only children who are at home for the first time need to apply for child benefit. The application is then valid until June, or until the child gets a place in a nursery or day care. The rules have been changed. Benefit is paid for eleven months of the year and not in July each year.

Home payments with children from 12 months of age

Parents of children who are at home for the first time now only need to apply for Child Benefit once, and the application will then be valid until June or until the child gets a place in a nursery or day care. The rules have been changed. Payments are now suspended in July each year.

The Municipality of Hafnarfjörður pays monthly home payments for eleven months of the year to the parents and guardians of children who are not in a nursery or with a day-care provider from the age of 12 months until the child turns 30 months. The monthly payment is based on the standard subsidy for 8 hours of childcare with a registered childminder.

Applications for the payments must be received by the 19th of each month at the latest to take effect for the upcoming month. If an application is received after this date, the payments will take effect the following month.

The conditions for payment are as follows:

  • The parent/guardian and child must be permanently resident in Hafnarfjörður. If permanent residence is moved from Hafnarfjörður in the month of application, the right to home payments is cancelled.
  • The child must have turned or be turning 12 months of age in the month the application is made, and be no older than 30 months.
  • Home-based payments can be requested for children over 30 months of age while waiting for a place at a nursery in Hafnarfjörður, provided that no fees are being paid for a place elsewhere.
  • A child is on a waiting list for a nursery place in Hafnarfjörður.
  • That the parents/guardians are not receiving other subsidies for the child from the City of Hafnarfjörður.

You must apply for home payments at Our pages. Payment is made on the last working day of each month, after the fact for the preceding month. As previously stated, payments are made for eleven months of the year; no home payment is made for July. Home payments are not retroactive.

And remember:

  • An application must be made once a year for each child who is entitled to child benefit.
  • An application must be received by the 19th of the month in which home payments are requested to begin. The application is valid until 30 June each year, as long as the child is entitled to home payments.
  • The application must be renewed annually by 19 August.
  • Payment for July is not due.
